First, I would like to express my sincere thanks for two wonderful and highly interesting weeks at the Gorgas Expert Course.  It has been very rewarding to me personally, but of course also in my duty as an ID consultant.  I foresee that Peru and other parts of Latin America will receive many more tourists from Europe and the course included both problems concerning travellers as well as the ID challenges you meet among Peruvians.

Secondly, I would like to express my deep appreciation for the excellent organisation of the course - and the high quality education we receieved.  And - send all my thanks to the many nice and caring people we met during our stay.  The friendship we met was overwhelming.

I just wanted to say that, having arrived home safe and sound, I found the Expert Course an absolutely fantastic experience.  I learned a great deal that will help me as a clinician, epidemiologist and travel medicine consultant.  As a physician who's intimately involved in the daily education of attending staff, housestaff, and students in our own institution, I also greatly appreciate the amount time in preparation and organization that assured the success of the program.  It was delightful to have met so many other experts and have created those vital links that make our professional lives all more complete.

I am deeply thankful for the weeks I spent at The Gorgas Institute participating in the Expert Course.  All of you in the faculty impressed me with your kindness as well as your profound clinical knowledge and wisdom.  The lectures, the Round discussions, the laboratory demonstrations and all the effort you made to make us all see and learn as much as possible were excellent.  I would like to express my deep gratitude for all of the work you continue to do, in the teachings of various aspects of tropical medicine.  The way you used the clinical observations to find new ways of improving treatment and diagnostics, as well as giving patients new hope impressed really impressed me.  The weeks I spent in Peru have truly been an great inspiration for me in my clinical duties as an Infectious Disease Consultant here in Sweden.  We see more people travelling around the world and thanks to The Gorgas Institute we have been able to successfully treat some infections seldom seen here, as for example mucocutaneous leishmaniasis.  I will recommend The Gorgas Institute to all ID doctors wanting to explore the strange and fascinating world of tropical medicine and I am sure they will get as much inspiration to work harder to help more patients as I did.

I want to thank all of you again for a marvelous course.  I sat down to-day looking through all my notes and the CD material and am amazed how much ground was covered within that relatively short period of 2 weeks.  But perhaps the most important feature apart from the high, professional and didactic standards of the course is the atmosphere you manage to create for the participants, that is not only extremely pleasant but also very condusive for discussions and for making important links to other people specialized within Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine.  As I do some teaching myself I am aware of the huge effort and extra workburden that is involved in mounting a course of this scale, and I have nothing but compliments to everybody.  This is my second visit to the Gorgas Course and I am as happy than I was for having participated this time as I was in 1999.
