Sponsored by the Sparkman Center for Global Health, these full scholarships are open to physicians and doctoral-level public health professonals who are both nationals and current residents of developing countries. They cover all costs including tuition, field trips, airfare, and accomodation. One to four scholarships per year are awarded.

A large number of very strong applications are received each year. Key criteria for selection include not only previous academic and intellectual strength but also the potential for the training each candidate would receive to have an immediate impact on health care in their own country. Generally, individuals at undifferentiated stages of their careers (interns, residents) or without evidence of some sort of institutional commitment to future plans once training is complete are not viewed enthusiastically by the Scholarship Committee. Students are not eligible for scholarships.
